25 - Golden Weekend for Bisons in Calgary
The Bison Volleyball Club put a close to its season this past weekend
with dominating performances at both the 16U and 15U Nationals in
Calgary.
In the 16U Division, Bison Gold defeated Bison Black in the semi-finals
before destroying Cal-Air to be named National Champions. Bison Black
continued on to the Bronze medal match where they defeated Toronto
West in straight sets. Congratulations to National All-Stars: Brendan
Johnson, Stefan Savoie, Dylan Sterzer, and to the MVP Emory Wells.
Bison Gold easily defeated BAM to capture Gold medals in the 15U Division,
while Bison Black finished 4th after losing a close three set match
against the ACC Cougars. Congratulations to National All-Stars: Stefan
Balko, Chad Lernout, Dane Pischke, and to the MVP Chris Voth.
Congratulations to all Bison athletes as you were all excellent representatives
of both Manitoba and the Bison Volleyball Club!

15 - All Bisons in Both 16U and 15U Provincial Finals
The Bison Volleyball Club was the only club represented in the finals
of both the 16U and 15U Provincials this past weekend. In the 16U
Gold Medal Match, Bison Gold defeated Bison Black to finish the tournament
undefeated. Bison 16 White were defeated in the Bronze Medal Match
by Winman Blue. The 15U category featured a similar outcome, with
Bison Gold defeating Bison Black in the finals. Congratulations to
Provincial All-Stars: Stefan Balko (15 Gold), Wes Bauer (16 White),
Tim Hague (15 Black), Brendan Johnson (16 Gold), Ryan Malech (16 Black),
Ryan Munt (16 Gold), Dylan Sterzer (16 Black) and to the tournament
MVPs Chris Voth (15 Gold) and Emory Wells (16 Gold). Great work Zoons
and all the best at the Nationals this weekend in Calgary!

9 - Tier 2 Gold Medalists in Moncton
Bison 18 Gold went undefeated in their final day of competition at
the 18 and Under Nationals. In the tier 2 Gold Medal match the Bisons
defeated the Diablos 26-24 and 25-20. Congratulations on a great season
guys!

9 - Bison 15 Gold Finishes 1st at MBCI
The Bison 15 Gold team defeated the Estevan Sundogs 2-0 in the finals
of the MBCI 16U tournament this past weekend. Both the 15U and 16U
Bisons will play in the Provincials this upcoming weekend followed
by the Nationals in Calgary from May 21-23.

1 - All Bison Semi-Final at MBCI
Bison 16 Gold defeated Bison 16 White in the finals of the MBCI tournament
this past weekend. Bison 16 Gold advanced to the finals with a win
over Bison 15 Gold in the semis while Bison 16 White advanced with
their win over Bison 16 Black. Great work Zoons!

25 - Two 1st Place Finishes for the Bisons in Brandon
In the 16U tournament Bison Gold defeated Winman Blue in straight
sets in the finals. Gold advanced to the finals with a win over Black,
while Winman Blue advanced after defeating Bison White in three sets.
Black defeated White in the 3rd place match. Bison 15 Gold captured
1st place in the 15U tournamet after defeating Winman, with the Bisons
taking both sets 25-12.

14 - Bison Volleyball Grieves Major Loss
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our
setter and friend. Luc's positive influence both on and off the court,
along with his intense love for the game will be missed by all. Our
deepest condolences and support go out to Luc's family and friends
in this difficult time.

9 - Bison Gold 1st in MVA 15U Tournament
Bison Gold defeated Winman in straight sets to finish 1st in the MVA
15U tournament. Bison Gold advanced to the finals with a semi-final
win over Brandon's ICE in two straight sets, while Winman took their
semi-final match against Bison Black in a hard fought three set series.
Apr. 9 - Bison Gold 1st in MVA 16U Tournament
Bison Gold defeated Winman Blue in straight sets to finish 1st in
the MVA 16U tournament. Bison Gold advanced to the finals with a semi-final
win over Bison White, while Winman Blue took their semi-final match
against Bison Black.

Apr. 5 - Bison Black Captures Home Tournament
In three sets Bison 16 Black defeated Bison 16 Gold in the finals
in the Bison 16U Tournament. Both Gold and Black finished first in
their pools and semi final action saw Black defeat Winman Blue and
Gold defeat Bison 16 White.

2 - Bison Gold Finishes 2nd in MVA 18U Tournament
Bison 18U gold finished the round robin 1st in their pool and defeated
the Saskatoon Volleyball Club and the ACC Cougars in straight sets
in the quarter finals and semi finals respectively. Bison Gold advanced
to the finals to face the Strike, who they had defeated in straight
sets during round robin play. After losing the 1st set the Strike
came back winning the next 2 sets and capturing 1st place. Bison 18U
Black finished the round robin ranked 2nd in their pool and were defeated
by the ACC Cougars in the quarter finals.

30 - Bison Juniors Take on Providence College
Starting
their season on a positive note, the Bison 20U team defeated Providence
College 4-1 (25-18, 26-24, 18-25, 25-19, 18-16) in exhibition play.
Nathan Toews was a dominating presence on the court leading the team
in blocks, kills and aces. The highlight of the match was a stellar
blocking performance by Guy Bourgeois in the final set of the match
as he demonstrated his strength on the left side.

20 - Gold for Bisons in Selkirk
After finishing the round robin ranked 1st in their pool, Bison 16
White went on to defeat Winman 16 Blue in straight sets in the finals
of the Selkirk Royals 16 and Under Tournament. The White team advanced
to the finals with a win over Bison 15U Gold in the semi-finals. The
15U Gold team went on to defeat Selkirk 16 in the 3rd place match
to capture Bronze. In the 15 and Under division Bison 15 White finished
1st in their pool after the round robin and advanced to the finals
with a win over Selkirk 15. Although the Zoons defeated Winman 15
in straight sets during the round robin, the finals proved more difficult
and the Bisons came away with a 2nd place finish. Great start to the
season Zoons!

6 - Bisons Capture Bronze at CIS Championships
Congrats to our Manitoba Bisons as they defeated the Saskatchewan
Huskies 3-2, with a 5th set score of 22-20.
Feb.
7 - Strong Bison Performance in the States
This past weekend the Bison 16U teams played in the Molten Wisconsin
Boys Volleyball Festival, where 24 teams competed in the 16 and Under
Open category. In a tournament that featured many of the top teams
from across the USA, the Bisons played extremely well, demonstrating
the Bison virtues both on and off the court. The Gold team finished
the tournament tied for 3rd place overall, with Black finishing 13th
and White 19th. Great job representing the Bisons, Manitoba, and Canada!

May
25 - Bisons Capture Gold at Canadian West Open
Bison 15 Gold brought gold medals back from Calgary without losing
a single
set this past weekend. The Gold team's toughest match came against
Bison
Black in a semi-final that featured the only two undefeated teams
in the
tournament. This intense match-up left Bison Black with little energy
to
compete in the Bronze medal match, where they were defeated by the
Grand
Prairie Wolves in straight sets. Congratulations to Braden Remillard
and Cody
Maicher for being named to the All-Star team, and to Ryan Munt who
was
named tournament MVP. In the 16 and Under category, the Bisons advanced
to the Tier 1 quarter-finals after going undefeated in their power
pool. They
were defeated in the quarter-finals by a tough Park Black team. Congratulations
to all Zoons, as your hard work and dedication has resulted in success.

May 9 - Bisons Take Silver at 18 and Under Nationals
Bison Gold met face to face with the Strike in an all Manitoba gold
medal match.
In the finals Gold was defeated by the Strike in 2 straight sets,
25-23 and 25-22.
Bison Black was defeated by FVVC Ninja in 3 sets in the Tier 1 Quarter-Finals.

May 9 - Bison 14U Teams Play in Western Canadian Championship
The 14 and under Bison teams competed in Saskatoon this weekend. Bison
Gold
finished 4th with a loss to NAVC Gold in the bronze medal match. Both
Bison
White and Black were defeated in the Tier 2 Quarter-Finals. Chris
Voth was
selected as a tournament all-star. Congratulations on a great season
guys!

May 9 - Bison 16 Win Vincent Massey Tournament
In an all Bison final, Bison 16 defeated Bison 15 Gold in straight
sets to capture
1st place in the Vincent Massey Tournament. Bison 15 Gold finished
the round
robin ranked 3rd in their pool and defeated Selkirk and Winman 16
to advance to
the finals. Bison 16 finished 1st in their pool and defeated Prince
Albert to
advance to the finals. After placing 4th in the round robin, Bison
15 Black was
defeated by Estevan in the 7th place match. Great job Zoons...next
up is Calgary!

May 3 - Bison 15 Black Defeats Bison 15 Gold in Tournament
Finals
Playing with determination and demonstrating some awesome defense,
Bison
Black captured 1st place in the Glenlawn tournament with a win over
Bison
Gold in the finals. Both teams advanced to the finals by placing 1st
in their
pools after round robin play. This weekend the Bison midget teams
will be
competing in their last tournament before Nationals. The Vincent Massey
tournament will be held at Shaftesbury High School, Dakota Collegiate
and
Vincent Massey Collegiate. Good luck guys!
May 2 - Bisons Win 14 and Under Provincials
Bison Gold defeated Bison White in the semi-finals to advance to the
finals where
they defeated the Cougars Maroon. Bison White would capture 3rd place
with a
win over Selkirk Royals 8. Bison Black would finish the tournament
by defeating
Selkirk Royals 7 in the consolation finals.

May 1 - Bisons Compete in 20 and Under Nationals
The Bisons are in Burnaby, BC this weekend for the Canadian Open.

April 25 - Bisons finish 2nd and 3rd at Midget Tier 1 Provincials
After advancing to the finals with a win over Selkik in the semi-finals,
Bison 16
received a silver medal when defeated by the Strike in the finals
on the 16 and
under provincials held in Selkik. A loss to the Strike in the semi-finals
sent Bison
15 Gold to the bronze medal match where they defeated Selkirk. Bison
15 Black
finished 6th with a win over Winman 15. The teams will continue to
work hard
in the next couple weeks, as they will be looking forward to more
successes at
the Canadian West Open in Calgary, May 22-24.

April 18 - Bisons Capture the 18 and Under Provincial Title
Bison Gold won the championship by defeating the Strike 21-19 in the
third
and deciding set. They advanced to the finals with a thrilling semi-final
victory
over the ACC Cougars 29-27 in the 3rd set. Congratulations Men!
April 18 - Bison Gold 15 and Under Take Over Saskatchewan
Bison Gold advanced to the finals with a win over Bison Black in the
semi-finals.
In the finals the Bisons defeated the Prince Albert Smashing Bananas
in straight
sets. Bison Black was defeated by the Estevan Sundogs in the Bronze
medal
match.

April 17 - 4th Straight Tournament Win for the Bison Gold
14 and Under
Bison Gold 14U advanced to the finals at Selkirk High School with
a semi-final
victory over Bison White. In the finals Bison Gold defeated the ACC
Cougars
in two straight sets. Bison Black lost a close match to the ACC Cougars
in the
other semi-final match. All three Bison teams finished in the top
four places in
the tournament and Bison Gold extended its record to 26-0 this season.
April 10 - Bison Gold 14 and Under Wins 3rd Straight Tournament
After a tough semi-final win over the ACC Cougars 2-1 and 16 -14 in
the
deciding game the BISONS cruised to victory over the Brandon Bobcats
with
tough serving in the final of the tournament held at Assiniboine Community
College in Brandon. Bison White finished 3rd and Bison Black finished
7th.
April 8 - 20 and Under Provincials
In a highly anticipated third match, the University of Winnipeg took
three
straight sets off the Bisons winning the 20 and Under Provincials.
April 4 - Junior Bisons Win Match 2 Against U of W
The 20 and Under Bison squad takes match 2 of the best of three series
in the
Provincial Championships. Match three will go later this week.

April 3 - Strike Takes 1st Place in Bison Midget Tournament
The Bison midget teams started the day strong, as each team finished
first in
their pool after the round robin. The Strike defeated Bison 15 Gold
in the
semifinals to advance to the finals against Estevan who beat Selkirk
16 to
advance. Bison 15 Gold defeated Selkirk 16, taking 3rd place in the
tournament.
After their loss to Selkirk 16 in the semifinals, Bison 16 went on
to defeat
Winman 16 in the 5th place match. Bison 15 Black were defeated by
Winman
15 and finished 8th in the tournament. The Bison midget teams will
be
pounding balls this weekend in the Strike tournament at the University
of
Winnipeg.

March 30 - Bison 15 Gold Upset Bison 16 in MBCI Finals
It took three sets, but in the end Bison 15 Gold came out on top.
Both teams
placed first in their pools, while Bison 15 Black finished 2nd in
their pool
behind Bison 16. The teams are looking forward to hosting this weekend's
tournament at the University of Manitoba.
March 27 - Bison 16 Fight Back to Capture 1st Place!
It was a greatly anticipated final match in the MVA Midget
Tournament in
which Bison 16 went head to head against the Strike. After dropping
the first
set to the Strike 22-25, Bison 16 came back taking the second set
26-24 and
the third 15-11. Bison 16 advanced to the finals with a win over Bison
15
Gold in the semifinals. After round robin play, Bison 16 placed 2nd,
Bison 15
Gold placed 3rd and Bison 15 Black placed 6th.

March 21 - Bison Midget Teams Show Up Ready to Play in Selkirk!
It was an intense match-up, but in the end Bison 16 came out on top
over
Bison 15 Gold in the finals of the Selkirk Royals Midget Boys Tournament.
Both Bison Gold and Bison 16 finished first in their pools after round
robin,
while Bison Black captured 2nd in their pool with an impressive win
over
Winman 16. In the quarterfinals Bison Black met a tough Winman 15
team
and were defeated in three sets. Bison 16 advanced to the finals with
a win
over Winman 15, while Bison Gold advanced with a win over Selkirk
16. In
the finals Bison Gold got off to a strong start taking the first set,
but Bison
16 fought back winning the second and third sets to capture first
place in the
tournament. All teams played extremely well. Great job guys!
March
19 - Bison Coach Gives a 5 Stitch Performance...

13 - Bison 15's Start Club Season on a High Note!
The Bisons 15's Gold and Black teams finished 1st and 2nd respectively
in
their first tournament of the year. Both teams finished 1st in their
pools after
the round robin. The Gold team went undefeated while the Black team
had
two losses. The two teams battled it out for the championship but
the Gold
team got off to a good start in the first set to take it 25 - 9. The
second set
proved to be a much closer one, but in the end the Gold team managed
to win
25 - 20. This was an encouraging start to the club tournament season
as all
the players contributed to their teams' successes. Both teams are
looking
forward to next weekend's tournament in Selkirk (see draw in tournaments
section) as the competition will heat up even more with more 16 year
old
teams in the tournament. Go Zoons Go!!!
